dayinsure Comments as New Cars in Europe Required to Cut Carbon Emissions by Third

Cheshire, United Kingdom (5th July, 2012) – dayinsure, a leading online provider of temporary insurance for cars, vans and motorhomes in the UK, comment as the EU pushes manufacturers to make hybrid cars mainstream.

The EU is set to introduce a 95g CO2/km limit on cars by 2020, which is predicted could save European drivers approximately €25bn (£20bn) a year in fuel costs. The limit is currently 140g CO2/km and there is currently already a binding limit of 130g CO2/km set for 2015.

In hope that the 2020 targets will be met, the European Commission has also revealed plans for further emissions targets for 2025 and 2030, which could realistically only be met if hybrid or electric vehicles become mainstream.

Greg Archer, of campaign group Transport & Environment, said: “Tighter CO2 standards for cars will be welcomed by drivers across Europe, who would save €500 per year at the petrol pump on average.”

The European Commission document confirming these targets is set to be published in July 2012 and later approved by the European parliament and the Council of Europe during the next twelve months.

A spokesperson for dayinsure commented: “The proposed legislation for 2020 will help Europe to further prove that our car industry is leading the way in promoting eco-friendliness and progression.

“We are currently reviewing our product pricing to support the cut in carbon emissions and, ultimately, provide incentives for drivers of those vehicles. Hopefully this will encourage more EU-residents to become eco-conscious by driving hybrid and electric cars.”
