USA 23/2/2013 – The style of the evening and formal dresses has not changed drastically for over a decade. This year, things are different.
When it comes to formal dresses, 2013 is an exciting year. This year the styling of formal dresses is drastically different.
Formal dresses, in 2013, are, for the first time in over a decade, soft and flowing. The straight dresses, made from heavy, luxurious fabrics that we are used to seeing are still available, but they are joined by a new style of formal dress. This year’s formal dresses are more akin to ball gowns but are nowhere near as elaborate as ball gowns. A-line skirts flowing from nipped waistlines are very much the style for 2013.
Flattering low necklines are in, and there are plenty to choose from. Off-the-shoulder and halter necks are proving popular. In addition, glamorous one-strap styles and sweetheart necklines offer a welcome change, but classic scoop and bodice necklines are still available and look just as good with the new flowing A-line look.
The fabrics used are much lighter than in the past with chiffon and Charmeuse dominating. Colors vary widely too, with some designers offering their dresses in as many as 28 different shades. Black still figures strongly, but warmer colors, such as red and purple, are definitely dominating in 2013.
Choice is still important
Overall, in 2013, formal dresses are far softer and more flattering than they have been in the past. The romantic look has superseded the classic lines of the past. However, most designers have hedged their bets and have included some classic, straight dresses in their range. These dresses are made from heavier and richer fabrics, but, this year, feature less adornment.
Jenny Joseph stock over 200 evening and formal dresses, 2013 will be a big year for them, so they are in the process of adding more dresses to their range. Their buyers are busy changing and updating their range throughout the year to match the aspirations and tastesof their customers, who span the entire age range from teenagers to women in their 70s and 80s.
