Graduates missing opportunities in built environment careers

Findings out from the Centre for Economic of Social Inclusion have revealed that students are taking up degrees for careers where limited vacancies are available – leaving roles in the built environment job sector undersupplied with candidates.

As volumes of unemployed 16-25 years olds continue to climb – CareerStructure.com, the leading recruitment site in the built environment jobs and engineering jobs sectors, has published details of average junior salaries for roles within these sectors – demonstrating great opportunities for skilled graduates.

Role Junior Salary*
Architect 15,909
Civil Engineer 20,429
Building Surveyor 25,278
Electrical Engineer 25,648
Mechanical Engineer 27,200
Site Engineer 29,038
Structural Engineer 29,444

Richard Nott, Website Director, CareerStructuresaid: “With the increase in tuition fees and mounting numbers of youth unemployment, students need to be savvier about their career choices.  The findings from the Centre for Economic of Social Inclusion have demonstrated great opportunities for skilled graduates – and with junior salaries looking so promising in the built environment sector – it’s clear that more needs to be done to draw young people into these industries and away from those where recruitment has become saturated.”

Careerstructure.com is the leading specialist construction jobs, built environment jobs, and engineering recruitment website. The site draws over 220,000 unique users each month, attracted by the opportunity to search for an average of more than 3,500 IT job opportunities at any one time.
