Green Room Develops Interactive Co-op Pop-Up

Birmingham, United Kingdom (3rd July, 2012) – Green Room Retail, the UK’s fastest growing retail design and delivery practice, has worked with The Co-operative to design and deliver an interactive pop-up experience as a way to attract local communities, all in celebration of the United Nations’ International Year of Co-operatives.

Green Room developed the pop-up piece from a customised shipping container by cladding both its exterior and interior, allowing graphics and display areas to be affixed throughout; they also designed its contents to spill across an area of Astroturf through full-length concertina doors. The pop-up features stylish lighting, interactive community boards and family-friendly artwork zones, as well as spaces to sample Fair Trade foods and drinks; people can also read about how co-operatives help both local communities and the world.

A spokesperson for The Co-operative said: “Green Room tackled our brief in an imaginative and unexpected way, and the end result is a superb pop-up that will now play host to a series of street party events at Co-operative stores throughout the South East.”

Pop-ups have become popular in retail, as they allow a company to deliver a brand experience whilst creating an effective publicity campaign; Green Room was one of the first retail design agencies to bring this method to the UK, and continues to experiment and innovate with it. The container used here can be redressed and used for future Co-operative activities; it can also be transported with ease, and can house a variety of event props and components for added convenience.

Richard Ash, Green Room founder and chief-executive, said: “From site location, design, manufacturing, installation, de-installation, delivery, staffing and storage, we have the understanding required to make pop-ups an exciting and commercially-sound experience. We are also keen to connect the physical presence of pop-ups with consumers online using an array of devices including bespoke websites, QR codes and mobile apps.”

The Co-operative Street Party has been conceived to promote co-operative membership and encourage people to get involved in business and community throughout the International Year of Co-operatives; it is also intended to raise awareness of co-operatives in a creative way that boosts community engagement. Co-operatives Fortnight runs from 22nd June to 5th July. There are 1.4 million co-operatives across the globe, aiming to ‘build a better world’ through such values as democracy, openness, equality, and social responsibility within both the local and global community.
