London, United Kingdom, (26th January, 2012) – One of the country’s leading providers of medical interviews and interview skills consultancy services, ISC Medical, comments on how the Health and Social Care bill going through parliament could affect the level of management and leadership training doctors receive.
Many doctors have been wondering how they will be able to take on the management and leadership skills and responsibilities that are required of them under the new system, as part of the new Health and Social Care Bill currently passing through parliament.
ISC Medical believes the real possibility of clinical excellence awards being scrapped also poses a challenge in ensuring there are proper incentives for doctors to demonstrate innovation and leadership both in their clinical practice, and in the running of their services.
Olivier Picard, MD of ISC Medical, commented: “It has been identified on many occasions that doctors lacked training in management and leadership, and much effort is currently being invested in ensuring that this forms part of the ‘curriculum’, either explicitly through courses or as part of day-to-day involvement in service improvement and development activities.
“For a junior doctor, though, the situation is difficult since many do not stay in training posts long enough to ensure that they can acquire those skills in a stable environment; where training is still of a predominantly clinical nature.
“For many, attending good courses is therefore key; courses such as our Management and Leadership course for doctors are specifically designed to assist doctors acquire such essential skills using various techniques in an interactive and enjoyable environment.”
