Google has today updated PageRank across the web with new index Caffeine. Here at SubmitShop, we have closely noted and reported new and old websites’ PageRank increases as well as decreases, which will surely have an effect on the SERP rankings in the coming days as well.
Google Caffeine Index PR update is the first update after the implementation of Caffeine on 8th June, This was the largest index updated as Google new also indexed a lot of new content, and it will be welcomed by many website owners of small as well as a big web site. Google PR is the measurement given by Google from 1 to 10 based on many factors and relevance applied to any given web page. This is also helpful for those webmasters who use PageRank as an indication of the authority applied by Google to a webpage and takes it as quality standards!
PR Calculations
For PageRank, a page, all of its inbound links are taken into account. These are links from within the site and links from outside the site.
PR(A) = (1-d) + d(PR(t1)/C(t1) + … + PR(tn)/C(tn))
However Caffeine will have many more factors to have PR calculations but this equation was published when PageRank was being developed, and it is probable that Google uses a variation of it.
In the equation ‘t1 – in are pages linking to page A, ‘C’ is the number of outbound links that a page has, and ‘d’ is a damping factor, usually set to 0.85.
A page’s PageRank = 0.15 + 0.85 * (a “share” of the PageRank of every page that links to it)
In the SEO industry, there are differences in views about the importance of PR, According to SEO Experts at Submit Shop “Some SEOs have reverse view who only trust on theme and quality of web sites and for them, PR is just a ToolBar indication. But Many other SEO companies and webmasters focus on PageRank as a part of success in their SEO strategy, however, PageRank cannot and should not be forced – the process should be a natural indication of the authority your webpage has built through your efforts to attract targeted visitors.”
There are many low PageRank sites that have very good SERP rankings, hence proving PageRank does not mean high rankings. We think that long-term planning should be to get the quality of your website at the highest level with all possible resources from contents, social media, and website speed-related factors amongst some other factors as well as quality links, a number of authority referring domains, etc.
We at SubmitShop think that this First PR update after Caffeine implementation will help webmasters to analyze and understand Caffeine algo more closely as soon as the SERPs are updated.
